Fuel gauge not working
For about a year now my fuel gauge only works when full or near empty, I been going by when I get near 300 miles on a tank full, get some gas. I think the fuel pump and gauge is all one unit in the fuel tank and just haven't wanted to mess with it. Wondered if anyone can tell me how many hours it would take and if I should just replace fuel sensor or whole unit with pump and whatever else is there. Did this on pone of my old trucks, forget what it was, but the sending unit twisted out of the tank and with all the rust, it was difficult. Then dropping the tank just enough to unhook all the lines and wires, I think I will need to borrow a transmission jack. I may just want to live with it, truck still running good, but 205,000 miles I sometimes think, just drive it until it dies.
Anyway question is for someone who doesn't do this everyday, is this an all day job and should I replace everything in that unit I pull out of tank?

With 200K it's time to replace the whole thing. Make sure you mark the position of the old pump before you take it out it will help when you put the new one in. Sender should face forward if i remember correctly.
