Well its Monday morning now and she's still turning right over on the first try. So glad to have finally figured this out. Yes, fifth time was the charm, with a "new starter" that is. I would absolutely try a new starter dean98ram, it was the only thing that eventually worked for me. You are the only other person I have heard of anywhere, and ive talked to a lot of expierenced people about this, that has had a similar thing happen. Not even similar, exactly really. Let me know how you make out.

I still can't believe that this problem is happening to another person other than myself. I was about to start replacing wires and whatnot, as they are almost 24 years old and I'm sure aren't carrying full amperage to the starter as they used to. I'm going to call the company that makes the starters, "CARQUEST" and see what can be done about this. With temperatures hovering around 10 degrees and patients running low, I'm not so much in the mood to replace yet another starter.

Your problem starters were remanufactured Carquests also, correct?

They sure are carquest. I'm telling ya, go with a new starter and post back. Really glad I was able to help someone out, as ive used this site many times in the past as a guest to help point me places. And I understand your reluctance to crawl around in the driveway in ten degree weather, I just did it five times in temps between minus ten to a few degrees above zero. Only good thing is it only takes about six minutes once you've done it so many times. Good luck.

Carquest doesn't make starters. They were a parts store that had decent parts until Advanced bought them about 4 year ago.

The starter and the box it came in says carquest on it. Five times over. Just saying.

Carquest is now owned by Advance, so Carquest is guilty by association.

Thanks for this thread - I will be sure to test starters before I install them now with quality seeming to be going down the drain.
