Default 2001 shocks

I just bought a used 2001 RAM 1500 that needs new shocks. I looked at all the videos online on how to replace them but when I did the full oil service I noticed that my shocks dont match what is being shown and talked about. My shocks dont actually go up through the coil but instead are behind the coil. There isnt even a hole to mount them through the col. Do I have a strange setup, will the listed shocks even fit?

Shocks mount through the coil on 4wd trucks, not 2wd. The shock should be behind the coil in the control arms. Make sure you look under 2wd or "1500" parts sans 4x4.

Actually, shocks on all our trucks are super easy. If the bolts aren't rusted that is. I've done mine twice already and both times it's just a couple bolts. Make sure to really torque down the front bolts or you'll get a clunk.
