Default Notchy Steering

Ok I am used to driving my dads 96 sport 2wd. I bought a 99 4x4 sport and it seems to have a notchy feel to the steering, its just not as smooth as his truck. I was thinking maybe it was the 4x4 and higher stance and all, but I am not sure. The dealer I bought it from "dealerized" the engine bay and it was spotless to I assume they steam cleaned it or power-washed it. I looked at the steering colum and it seems like some of the joints look a little rusty. Could I put some all purpose grease on these or some pb blaster or something to smooth out the steering?

1st make sure that the 4x4 lever is in 4x2 on dry roads and that the diff is disengaging. Make sure that all tires are the same height. Measure them with a tape measure. not the size on the side wall. The 4x4 Dodge trucks do have a stiffer feel to them. I would do a front end inspection as well to be sure that you don't have any other problems.
