Default Bogging down

Hey yall,

I have a 97 Ram 1500 318 quad cab and I was on my way home last night and all of a sudden the engines boggs way down and the check engine light comes on. I finally make it home and check the engine code. It is a code 34...speed control vacuum or vent sloenoid circuit.

So where can I find these or what can I do to fix this problem. I dont like walking.

Default RE: Bogging down

for what it's worth, my 98 5.9 bogged down on me last week and the ce light came on, this happened right after I engaged the a/c. not sure if it was a coincidence or what. anyhow, when I got home after nursing it 2 miles, I found that when I punched it it would stall. the ce light stayed on. I found that my air hat /breather was loose and tightened it down. then I "rebooted" the truck by disconnecting the negative and left it off for a minute or so and when I reconnected it and fired up the engine it ran great. no ce until i re engaged the a/c, so it's somethig w/the a/c. I had to disconnect the negative again and then reconnect it to get the ce light to go away. I took it out for a test run and it ran fine, even ran it through the 4wheel drive selections 4l and 4h, no stalling. I can punch the motor and it stays running and idles smoothly.

I never got codes that I could find by turning the ignition on off on off on...

so check your air cleaner and tb sensors to make sure they are snug. and then try a reboot. who knows it might fix it.

Here is an update. When I tried to drive the truck into my garage it would hardly make it. The truck is idling fine. I still can find no info on a vent solenoid circuit or speed vacuum control. Any Ideas??? I sure need help with this one.

I am having this same problem with my 1997 Ram 1500 5.2. It was bogging down at about 3000 RPMs so I would let off the gas. I thought it might be the tranny so I changed the fluid and filter on the trans. Same thing is happening. I held it to the floor in 1st gear at 3000 RPMs and get the CEL to come on and it is throwing a 34. I have no idea what "Open or shorted condition detected in the speed control vacuum or vent solenoid circuits" means. I have check for the obvious vacuum leaks and found nothing. Any help would be appreciated.

I found the problem (I think). It is the plastic vacuum hose that comes through the braided line and connects somewhere under the battery is broken. It looks like I need a new vacuum line but I do not know where this connects under the battery. The crappy Hanes manual does not mention this at all. Thanks.
