I’m not sure what exact horsepower is for these years all I can do is research. This is for a 99 Dodge Ram 1500

Look for stickers on the rad support and pcm that say "dealer authorized update" or something like that. Chances are, its deathflash but it's not as bad as it seems. All I noticed when I had a tuner was it kept speed better but the trade off is terrible pinging.

285s are 33s. Well, 32.8 anyway. That's what I run with 3.55 gears but I have the stick which has different gearing than the auto. Either way, mine could barely move 265s so I went up and have run three sets of 285s in the last nine years.

These trucks aren't fast. They have good torque though for their size. When I tow, I barely can tell a difference when running empty.
I’m hoping to get mine to tow better, she really doesn’t have any power climbing over the pass here. 25mph max down shifting to get up to 35mph then just back to 25..it’s just frustrating thanks for all your help.

You must have meant the 5.9L you said 5.7L which means the Hemi which is higher in how but not torque.

The hemi has always had more hp and torque than the magnums. Anywhere from 40-75 more lb-ft than the 5.9 ever did. It currently has 410 where the 5.9 was between 325 and 335 depending on year.

Passes are killers to any NA gasser. I barely eked over 4th of July when I moved towing all I owned on 33s and 3.55s. But once I was rolling I could get it to 60-65 in 4th. What size trailer and what size hill? If we could see what you're dealing with, it would help. Don't expect diesel or ecoboost performance here.
