Default 1998 trailer wiring issue

Nee to the form here an new to this 1999 Dodge Ram 1500. It's a extend can short bed 4x2. I bought the truck to pull my 27' travel trailer. I bought the new hitch since the truck didn't come with one. Also a brake controller and a 7 pin connector. My problem is it seems like the turn an tail lamps run off the negative part of the rear lighting circuit. Am I missing something here? I need power not ground. Any help would be much appreciated!

I think you should have gotten a 2500 to tow it. You can tap into the harness going to the tail lights for the lights but you need to tap right onto the the brake switch for the brake controller(you can't use the light wiring). Also you need a heavy duty flasher. Stock one won't cut it due to the extra load(trailer lights).

Easiest way I've found is get a plug and play harness, costs a bit more, but all the thinking is done.
