Default Glove box light switch

Ok, so the switch on my Ram is broken off, like many others. So, while at the JY the other day I found one that wasn't. But dang, who designed that thing? It's attached to a plastic frame that requires a bunch of disassembly to remove and it looks like it's part of the sub dash. So I got to thinking......which, if you ask my wife, is always scary.
So, I remove the GB door, removed the trim panel below the airbag and looked at it. So, here is a easy way to replace the busted switch.
If you look at the switch and the way it is mounted, it's on a tab. The tab has a little step in it above the screw. Disconnect the wires, use your favorite stanley knife and score that tab as deep as you can. Then remove the single screw. Bend the switch up and it will break cleanly. Do the same on your donor vehicle. , Then just attach the new switch with the screw, fast, easy, simple. And now I can find my gloves in the dark. I don't feel bad about breaking a piece of the donor dash, because they are usually trashed anyway.

A long time ago my 01 had a current draw due to a defective glove box light switch. The shop just disconnected it and left it in its place. Over the years somehow it made its way into the glove box and its just sitting there. Never had the need to fix it.

I didn't need to fix it, but, I was at the junkyard, and the fix was staring me in the face....If only finding a complete unbroken dash was that easy...... Subdash? Check, got one. Upper dash/fascia?.......never gonna happen unless I buy new, and even the aftermarket offerings are expensive. But in the meantime I move onto the front end......

I know what you mean, i hit all three LKQ- pick your part in my city and did score on items i needed and a couple for spares that i could not pass up. no dash stuff of course (except for some of those clips). need to go back for a rear bumper, there were several in good shape last time i check. my '01 truck was relegated a year ago to a back-up vehicle for my wife and i -got a new to me daily driver. it is still our beater but in damn good shape mechanically and looks decent enough. dash has a few hairline cracks but fully intact. it's been a real trooper, love these trucks.

my upper dash fascia is/was intact when some 8 years ago i put one of those "caps" on top of it. the color matched and all, have not removed it since but the cap should be preserving it. should is the key word, kind of hesitant to take it off.
