Unhappy 1997 dodge ram 1500 5.2 oil pressure issues

the issue im having is when truck is cold and i start it oil pressure appears normal just a little over 40, once it has warmed it it lowers to the first line on gauge showing that it barely has any oil pressure. at first the issue was oil got low and the oil light would come on and the pressure would drop to nothing when at idle or parking the it. i replaced the sending unit and filled it up with oil and now it doesnt drop all way just the oil pressure seems weak once truck warms up. should i replace oil pump with high volume one? im at 250k miles now. dont have no knocking. doesnt over heat.

Remove the sending unit and put a mechanical guage there to verify that is the actual pressure (these guages really aren't that accurate). If that indeed shows low pressure post here what it is as the spec for a high mileage engine isn't that high at idle. PS oil pump doesn't given you the pressure (unless it's to high of pressure) your connector bearings give you oil pressure. Unless your oil pump isn't working properly or is broke. But it didn't affect it directly so to speak. As the engine wears the connecting rod besting wear allowing the oil to pass through more freely.

okay ill try get a mechanical guage from auto part store soon as i can. if the oil pressure is dropping i should do the bearings? would i have to pull the engine or can it be done with the engine in the truck? or would i be better of swapping a used engine with lower miles. my ram is 4x4 so i should be able get pan off

Let's not rush into anything yet. Put the mechanical guage on there when it's warm and see what it is reading. It may be the sending unit, pump, bearings, or a combination of the above listed. Your truck may also be within spec. As a vehicle gets higher mileage the pressure will drop some, which is normal.

Also could try to take the sensor off and spraying it with CRC and reconnecting. this worked for me as my guage was giving me mixed messages.

You been remove the whole sensor or just the connector? Did you use CRC electrical cleaner or brake parts cleaner?

its brand new i replaced it when i did plenum gasket last weekend. i think it more then likely going to be bearings since it was ran just below the safe line. i can see the oil pressure gauge on dash is not steady after driving for 30 mins bounces up and down a little

Even brand new guages can be bad. I went through 5 before I finally got one that was close to the mechanical guage readings
