Default Water pump?????

Good day to all...Have a 01 ram sport 4x4 with a 360 ...I noticed the lower radiator hose is cool to the touch, but the upper is hot/warm(engine @normal opp temp) Is this a "flow" issue with the water pump???...or is it simple like the thermostat.I'm getting heat, but i think it could be alot hotter...my temp gauge reads normal, currently not experiencing any driveability issues..but seeing how its winter almost..this cool botom hose is got me a tick nervouse.

thanks for your time, Great sight btw.....look foward to chatting with you all...seems like a great bunch on this board.

sounds right to me... the radiator is gonna take out as much heat as it can (by it's design) and return cool water back to the motor. if your not having any heating issues, id say your fine.

Hmmm..I had thaught that it should be at least warm a little..but what you said does make sense,(takes cooled down coolant from the botttom..not the top)and it is a big radiator to boot.I did sqeeze the bottom hose and noticed it has a big spring like coil in it that runs the entire length..is this OEM???

Thanks for your reply

The "spring" is to keep the hose from collapsing. I'm not sure if that type of hose is OEM or not though.

As far as the problem, I'd have to agree with Steve.

yes it should be, all lower hoses should have some type of spring in it to prevent it from collapsing.

btw, welcome to DF!

in the haynes it says that if your upper rad hose is warm/hot and the lower is cool.. then your pump and or t-stat is working properly... as per the troubleshoot section for cooling systems..
