Default How to Remove the Stereo

How do you remove the stereo from a 01 Dodge Ram pickup? My nephew just purchased a Sirius satellite radio and for it to have great sound it need to be plugged in through the radio wiring. He has already bought the modiulator (sp) kit to be able to do it. Best Buy said they would charge $100 to do it. I would rather not pay $100. Any special tools needed other than a screw driver. Please provide step-by-step directions.

Thanks.

the front bezel that goes around the instrument cluster just pulls off, there are some tabs that will self release when pulled on. then the stereo should just slide out.

Thanks for the quick response. I will give it a shot this weekend.

So where will these (2) 10mm hexbolts be located?

This is the only site that had a picture of something close (but it was the van, but same range of year, might be similar): http://www.carstereohelp.com/stereoremovalDodgeVan1.htm

I guess I better take my small tool kit.

just be carefull pulling that bezel off... took mine off a few times and putting it back on a few times starting a nasty crack on it... now its just fallin apart... fortunatly i got a new one that i used hot glue and some plastic stock to re-inforce... so it wont happen again..im always pulling my aftermarket deck to add something new and take out something old.

Do you have to use a lot of pressure to pop the bezel off? Any particular spot i should apply pressure on first (corner, middle, near radio area, etc.)? Do you need to get underneath it with a flat head screwdriver to prise it off?

Once again thanks all.

if you have a tilting stearing wheel.. put that down as far as it goes.. makes pullin the bezel off a lot easier... trust me.. done it both ways..

crazy's idea is the best..i learned that one long after i cracked my old one bad... i used to just spit on my hands and grab the top and pinch it hard and yank... worked good the first 3 times and after that..crack snapple pop... good luck!!!!! the best way if using a screw driver, really skinny one in there... or even a strong peice of sheetmetel... similar to a window jimmy the sherrifs use to unlock your car/truck when you lock yourself out.. slide it in there and then slide it laterally till you hit on eof the clip mechanizms (sp) that hold it on to the dash... and pry gently there... its the strongest section..and also b/c its where the mose pressure comes from b/c thats the area where the bezel is held on at.. once you get it off itll make more sense!!! goodluck! and be gentle!
