Default Starter rebuild

Does anyone sell a starter rebuild kit for the 5.9 magnum? It will click but wont always spin when I turn the key, I'm pretty certain my brushes are bad and I hate to buy a new started for that.

Try Nations Auto Electric as well. Dodge uses the Nippodenso starter, which is very easy to rebuild. When I rebuilt the starter in my '97, I tore it all the way down, cleaned out the old grease, and installed fresh. Nations sells beefy contacts that will most likely last 20-30 years. I have no doubt the starter from my truck, which has since been totaled and parted, is probably still in service.

This sound like your problem? Looks like $8, and probably some shipping.

"We refer to this kit as our Denso survival kit. This kit is an absolute must for any garage or vehicle owner of a Honda,Toyota or Chrysler product that has this type starter. When this starter first begins to fail, you will experience a single “click” then normal operation. You may even think you didn’t turn the ignition key far enough. But, this is an early warning that these contacts (in the kit) are failing. This symptom will become more and more prevalent, and if ignored long enough, will cease to operate at all. "

Contacts tend to wear unevenly, like this:

When that happens, there's a risk that solenoid gets stuck, and when that happens, you'd wish to have a main switch for the battery. Or an axe.

When I replaced the contacts, I got the ones from diesel Toyota.

i would agree with the others most likely just need a new set of contacts in the solenoid and should be good for many more years.

Those are the ones Nations sells with their kit. I paid $15 (including priority shipping) back in the early 00s for mine. Best upgrade a 2nd Gen owner can do to his vehicle.
