Default 46re rebuild question

I'm going to be rebuilding a 46re out of my 1999 4x4 Durango using a video series from transmissionbench.com. Now my question is rebuild kits don't mention a difference between 4wd and 2wd variants. Obviously there's a transfer case on the 4wd but do you think I will I be able to rebuild the transmission the same as if it were the 2wd? Will I have to overhaul the transfer case as well?

The difference is in the tail housing. Shorter tail shatt on the 4x4 versio, but watching the videos will still get you trough it. The release for the OD section is the same. Like i saod you should be able to figure out the differences once you dig into it. The t case should be fine unless it specifically was giving you trouble.

You need a press to rebuild the OD unit.

I used transmissionbench.com to rebuild my performance build this year. It's made up in short video sections covering a certain part of the tear down or rebuild. You will need access to a press as mentioned above. The rest of the series tells you what tool/size you need and torque if needed. This is the kit I used. It comes with gaskets for 2 or 4 wheel drive. https://www.ebay.com/itm/A618-A518-46RE-47RE-Performance-Transmission-Rebuild-Kit-Level-2-Billet-Lever/272029129819?fits=Year%3A2001%7CModel%3ARam+1500%7 CSubmodel%3ALaramie%7CEngine+-+Liter_Display%3A5.9L%7CMake%3ADodge%7CTrim%3ALara mie+Extended+Cab+Pickup+4-Door%7CEngine%3A5.9L+360Cu.+In.+V8+GAS+OHV+Natural ly+Aspirated&hash=item3f56331c5b:g:r80AAOSwFe5X2Cb y No modifications were needed for the installation of performance parts, just a take old out and put new part in (performance). But.... I also got a new Governor Pressure Solenoid (Borg-Warner Heavy Duty), Governor Pressure Sensor (Transducer) 68164850AA, Output Speed Sensor (With O-Ring) 4800879, Lock-up & Overdrive Solenoid with Harness and a Sonnax Zip Kit. READ the Sonnax Instructions, one will need to install parts from this kit while rebuilding the transmission. These parts are remove and replace also. There are realistic rebuild kits out there for a stock build. There are more performance parts too. Watch the whole series first he tells you what wear parts to replace, replace them. Tear the transmission down first then order parts. This got long winded. Answer, most kits come with all the gaskets required for 2 or 4 wheel drive. I always have extra parts for different applications after rebuilding.
