99 4x4 5.9. Here is what is going on. As stated in another thread engine is dead. Only thing around here is a 5.2 out of a 98 dakota. What are difference between the 2? Basically I understand the 5.2 is balanced in a different area then the 5.9 that has the stick out harmonic balancer. I know it is a 5.2 as it has 316 stamped on the block. Are the heads different? I just put new heads on not to long ago, Odessa, new harmonic balancer and other stuff like fixed the plenum etc. What parts do I need to take off 5.9 to make this 5.2 work? How much HP will I loose?
Thanks for all info in advance.
limited funds. I would love to rebuild and juice it up but not feasible at this time.
Well here is what I know. The 360 is balanced externally. Other then that and the 360 having more torque and horsepower there isn't much difference. I'm not too sure if you could use the 360 heads on a 318 (my gut says yes but I don't want to give you wrong information). Are they interchangeable, yes. But you will need to tune the computer to a 318 tune or you'll dumb way to much fuel into that 318. I understand the limited funds, if only we were all rich
If I were you, I'd wait until you can find a good used 5.9 magnum motor. Check your local Craigslist, Facebook MarketPlace and local salvage yards. You will give up a good degree of torque and horsepower by using a 5.2 motor.
