I use an actual oil sender socket. I would guess 1 1/4"?

Yeah that's what I used. It was purchased from a local auto parts outfit. It is a 1 1/16th inch deep socket. Probably can't use it for anything else.

There are some sensors it workes on. I bought it because I didn't have a deep enough socket to fully engage the ratchet, then when I did find one it started to strip the nickel base of the sensor. Now using that socket changing the sensor is actually easy

Default Oil pressure sensor socket

I replaced the oil pressure sensor/switch on my 2008 Ram 1500 ST as the oil pressure light was on. Reading threads on the issue led me to replace this switch first, which worked. The issue with replacing this part is that it requires a special socket tool to get the old sensor off, and the new one on. I had read some threads that indicated a 1-1/16" socket would work, but that is to large for both the old and new sensor. AutoZone, and I am sure a few other auto parts stores, sell a socket that is specific for replacing the oil pressure switch that has two sizes within the socket - a larger socket that fits the new switch, and a smaller inset socket that fits the old switch. Worked like a charm! The special socket cost me $13, plus I needed to buy a 3/8" to 1/2" connector for $7, but in all this saved me hundreds in having my mechanic do the job. I can probably only use this socket for this job and will likely never use it again in my lifetime.
