Default Gen light illumination

Although I didn't see it happen the Gen light came on for the first time yesterday while I was driving on a 10 mile trip home. When I got home I shut it off for a few minutes and upon restarting the Gen light did not come on. I'm assuming since it came on once it will return. I'm driving a 30 mile round trip today and will update. Any input appreciated.

is this pointing to the alternator and any component / plug along the path to cause illumination of this light? If so what should I check to make sure it's not the alternator?

Check the alternator output with the engine running. Should be @14.5 VDC. Check the belt to make sure it is not slipping. Get the battery load tested. Check/clean the terminals on the battery an alternator.

Check the belt to make sure it is not slipping.
The belt tentioners have been known to stick and don't keep the belt tight.

Default Gen light illumination 2

I tried two used alternators. the first one didn't work. a bit concerned that it could be something else I put another one in. well, the 2nd one did work. if nothing else I can change an alternator on one of these (hub also w/bearings) in approximately 20 minutes. lol.
I might add I notice less noise, more power to windows & lights, so, this alternator wasn't putting out well anyway.

thx,

rr
