Default Transmission #5

Help! Transmission #5 rebuild. Truck granny overdrive failed at 65mph. Tranny rebuilt 4,700 miles ago. This is transmission #5. The truck is a 1998 Dodge Ram 3500 quad cab, 4 WD, 24valve. It has 277,000 miles on it. This Tranny should be covered by the warranty.

I pull a truck camper and a 14 foot enclosed trailer for a combined weight of 15,800# going down the road. The overdrive unit failed and I have no reverse. I know these two units are "together" in the Tranny.

Why are they failing?

Kenny

Because you are not supposed to tow with the overdrive on. It's actually in owners manual but many don't read it.
