Torque Converter upgrade
 

So my 01 3/4 ton is pretty much all stock besides the lift and tires and muffler. Wanted to see if an upgraded torque converter would be a good option for sluggish acceleration, but would it make for any maintnence issues or any sort of downfall on an older truck? Also considering this is the factory transmission at 170,000 miles which they don't last forever especially having the automatic 4 speed and not the manual

I have the 5.9 V8, I like to go offroading too so it's nice to have that little extra push too

Don't want a truck that runs off a turbo, no go off-road and less to worry about too overall

Switching to a converter with a 200-300 rpm higher stall speed will get you better acceleration, and a larger transmission cooler is a good idea also.

Alright thank you, is there a recommendation that would be best for the V8 but not to expensive? For the converter and cooler

What size tires are you running, and what gears do you have in the diffs?

For trans coolers, the bigger the better. :) However, there is such a thing as overcooling.... so, a thermostatic bypass would be a good idea as well.

As for converters, given that they are a lot of fun to change..... don't go cheap. Get a good name converter, from a manufacturer you can trust. If you spend less than 200 bucks on it, you are cheaping out. :) Don't do that. :D

Tires are 33×11.5 r16 do believe it is stock gearing with Dana axles of course, pretty sure 44 is up front 60 is in the rear. Have the Alloy 16×8.5 wheels was thinking about getting steel wheels though because these Alloy ones keep cracking on these Pennsylvania roads.

Should be a d60 up front as well. :)

Are you thinking about going with larger tires at any point?

Oh okay, yea wasn't to sure. Gonna stick with these, I have some beefy mudders for the awful winter and All terrains for the rest of the season but mostly just drive the truck during the winter and fall. I found a nice 2500 rpm stall series think it's for the 36rh transmission though.
