Default Power steering help with 1997 dodge 2500 cummins

So it took us over 4 hours to remove and re install the power steering pump, lots of hoses and **** in the way and those bolts are hard to get to. Plus lining it back up, PITA, Now that we have it all hooked up, what fluid came out of the side of the motor when we removed the sensor plug thing and how do I go about re filling everything?

Stick the return line in a bucket until you get clean oil coming out, then connect it. I have no idea what leaked out of your engine, must be oil, diesel, or antifreeze.

So I have a 1997, this is a vacuum system, we had to pull out a sensor that bolts through the low side of 12 v motor and when we did all kids of liquid came out, it was dark so I thought it was oil but didnt smell like oil and my oil level is good, I am assuming it is power steering fluid but boy was it black. Any idea how to refill and prime the system?

Oil pressure sensor is located right next to a powersteering pump, and only sensor in that area. It's the oil gallery that drained, has little to zero effect on oil level. All good if it's not leaking.

To prime the system, fill the pump reservoir, start the engine, and let it idle couple of seconds. Turn off, check fluid, add if needed, repeat. When the level is within specs, lift front tires off the ground, start the engine and turn tires lock to lock few times until there is no more air bubbles in the oil.
