I purchased a 96 B2500 Van (I know this is the truck forum, but I figure not too many people are doing this kind of stuff to vans so I may get a bit more responses) that I'm lifting and may 4x4 later on. That's a whole other story, if it happens.

I'm wondering if anyone has recommendations on which LSD would be a good match for my use which will be light off roading. I thought about a locker, but being that it's either locked, spool or open I'm concerned about the performance on snow/ice and rain vs the LSD which I think might be more versatile in more conditions since realistically it will spend more time on the street than off.

What are your thoughts? Would like to keep it under/around $500 as well.

Under $500 the best option would be a drop in locker like a Powertrax no slip, if you want a limited slip the best option on the market is a Detroit Truetrac.

Here is a less expensive quality positrac/limited slip. I do like the Trutrack better due to gears that won't wear instead of clutchpack type LS/Posi, but they can be rebuilt about 200,000 mi from new.

$375 at amazon. That seems like a decent deal, I doubt this thing will see another 200k miles

Besides a gasket and new gear oil, is there anything else that I'd need to do this install?

Any recommendations on a gear oil for these?

You'll need new carrier bearings and races, for gear oil Eaton recommends regular non synthetic for the Truetrac. Regular 85w140 would work fine, that's what I use in all of my axles.
