Default No Heat in 1996 1500 with 5.9L

This one has me stumped. I have no heat in my RAM. It blows about as cold as the A/C. I don't have any kind of a leak coming from my heater core that I can see. I just put in a new 180 therostat and nothing. I topped off my anti-freeze too. The truck runs at a perfect 180 degrees when warm. Any ideas? The only thought I have is that my heater core might me clogged or the hose running to it. These Chicago winters are cold...

Check to make sure your temp controls are working the only other thing I have seen is my son's waterpump was clogged going to the core and not pumping antifreeze thru it.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I'm going to check the hose leading to the h core tonight. The anti-freeze was almost brown when I checked it, obviously the person who I bought it from didn't know how to change fluids. I have a feeling that I have a rust deposit buildup.

Stupid question coming from a newbie to auto mechanics. How do I check the temp controls?

Vacuum control hose from intake manifold to firewall on passenger side of engine compartment may not be attached or leaking.

On my 99 it is a vacume controlled valve. It will be hard to check but you should be able to feel the heater box down on the pasengers side and see if it is warm or not. I am assumeing the truck is coming up to temp? It is also concieviable that your core could be plugged if your system was abused. There are alot more dodge savy guys on here than me that should be able to chime in. Me I miss the old cars with a cable going to an inline valve that you could watch move.

Thanks.

When I get home I'll check to see if the hose to core is getting pressure, that should give me a good indication. I did notice a swiring/gurgling sound on the passenger side, i assume that is the core, it almost sounds like a possible air bubble or blockage.

there is a cable running from the temp control to the heater box and it has a white plastic arm on it and mine came off durring the summer and i was going to have to take the dash aprart but i cut a hole in the glove box ( barely noticable) and reatached it and vola i got my heat back. its kind of hard to explain tho. i will try to get pics up tonight or tomarow.

i would double check that thermostat if it was working before, maybe upside down or airbubble in coolant lines
