I have a 1995 Ram 2500 and I'm looking for a way to get new tailgate hinge grommets. Every time I do a search I get the Dorman #38641 Tailgate Hinge Insert Kit showing. Some sites say this kit will work and others say definitely not. So, I bought them in hope that they would, but they don't work. I eventually want to get a new tailgate, but I'm not going to spend the money and not be able to get proper hinge kit.

I was thinking of purchasing maybe new hinges to attach to the old tailgate that would allow a hinge kit to fit, but not sure if I go that direction, whether or not the tailgate would then line up with the latches.

Anyone else been there and have a solution?

You talking about the plastic pieces that go between the tailgate and bed?

 

They look something like this ... between the tailgate and bed hinge.

 

Yes that's what I was referring to. I bought a $3 set from Ebay that worked

No part number was a generic Chinese brand

 

I think I got mine from AdvanceAutoParts, they fit fine.

 

I have two pretty clean tailgates, one white and one black that are for sale in Western PA, they will come with the plastic pieces :-)
