Alternator or Voltage Regulator (which is a part of the computer) Voltage should be about 14 volts (14.3 is what I've read). With the truck running, measure the voltage across the positive and negative with a meter. should be 14.3 ish at idle.

Have the local autozone/advance auto/oreilly autoparts test alternator. they can do it on the truck.

Hey VirgilDoc, if it ends up being the voltage regulator, google dodge ram external voltage regulator mod. It's much cheaper than finding a replacement computer. Just did mine and can give you some tips if needed.

Check the voltage of the "new" battery you are putting in. No telling how long it sat on the shelf! I had an issue with my ac compressor and jumped out the relay. It sat for two days and when i went to start it barley started. (coil was engaged ) The gauge was reading in the 10-12 range, After driving it a while it returned to 14 where it normally stays.
