Default Go for it.

I agree with Hey You. Like any vehicle, it depends on how it's been taken care of. I've owned my Ram since I bought it new in 97' and have taken really good care of it. I wouldn't hesitate to jump in it right now and drive anywhere.

From what I heard, a Ram 1500 would be one of the best options for a road trip. All Ram 1500s come with the technology and safety items you desire, and a variety of trim levels keep you riding in style. It's great for its road trip-ready 702 miles per tank at 27 mpg highway. The engine might be thrifty, but it is also powerful. I had a friend who enjoyed going on road trips with his truck and didn't encounter any problems. But personally, I am more of a train guy and usually travel with dbauskunft.com.

My 95 ram I had had 220k and I hauled a I haul 6x12 trailer loaded to brim 350 miles back to maine….no issues aside from cat plugging up, cut pipe stuck piece of threaded rod in, broke it up, and revved to spit out the junk (I carry adaptors and clamps cuz I’ve had exhausts break in past on other vehicles) so I put back together and kept going….

my current 02 has 166k and I’d drive from maine to Florida right now…..granted I’m a mechanic and my vehicles are always meticulously maintained

My '96 Rams does fine on the highway, but there's a fuel penalty. I get 15 mpg with my Ram and 30-32 with my Mazda.

I also don’t have an issue road-tripping my 220k+ original (un opened) 5.2L.

So long as you’ve done your oil changes, they’re as reliable as… even neglecting plug, cap, rotor changes will just cost you milage, not reliability (my first plug change was over 80k).

On an old engine, a belt check would be advised before a road-trip.

Road tripping in your gas 2nd gen sounds like a blast, especially if it's been well maintained. And wow, over 220k miles on your 5.2L—that's impressive! Regular oil changes definitely keep things running smoothly. Checking the belts before hitting the road is a smart move for any older engine. If you need to plan your route or check train schedules along the way, www.dbfahrplan.com can help make your journey even smoother.
