Default Tires too big?

1995 Dodge Ram 1500 4wd 5.9L
I bopught this truck and it had 285/75R 16 tires on it. At first no problems, then a string of problems and error codes having to do with the VSS
mounted at the transfer case - replaced that; Cruise contriol stopped working and speedometer started bouncing around and then finally quit
altogether- went through everything and replaced everything - actual speedometer guage was last thing I replaced at $250.00. It works great except
when I'm going about 40 mph it reads 100-110 mph.
The tag inside the drivers door says truck came stock with tires that were 225/75R 16
Could this be the problem??
Could a new speedometer pinion with the correct amount of teeth for my tire size be an option?

I would. I changed my gear in tranny after I put 4.10s in my 97 ss/t

Tires aren't the problem but do make speedometer read off.

Yes but the speedo reading 100 at 40 is a problem that a gear change is not going to fix. I would pull out the whole vss assembly and take good look at it or it could be a faulty sensor.

I changed the vss twice. Also, the readings I get from testing the vss per the service manual check out good.
