Default Stalled at red light

I have seen a few variations of what has happened to me, so I will post my own to see if anything different comes up in response.

Last week I was low on fuel, I was going uphill and trucked sputtered a bit like it was running out. I make it to the top of the hill and it sputtered again and died but I was able to coast up to a fuel pump. I filled the truck up and it took a few minutes to get it restarted. 3 different times over the last week , as I would coast through a turn and then start to accelerate the truck sputtered a bit but was then fine. Once I braked hard and it almost died. Well this morning I died at a red light that was on a slight incline. I kept trying to start it and eventually almost drained the battery.

I pushed it into a lot and caught a ride to work. 3 hours later I went back and the truck cranked up no problem and made it back home.

As a side note , it was 22 degrees out this morning and this all happened less than 1/2 a mile from my house.

So i have several questions,

Did I cause an issue by running out of gas?
Could it be bad fuel?
O2 sensor?
I cant even remember last time the fuel filter was changed.

Thinking back I have noticed that sitting at idle , especially in park it seems a bit rougher than it should be.

What is the most likely and easiest thing to check?

thanks for any help

1. Running out of fuel shouldn't cause an issue unless you had debris in the tank. I ran out of fuel numerous times because my gauge doesn't work since I upgraded my tank
2. Absolutely
3. Was the truck warm when it happened? You can unplug the front O2 sensor and see if it changes anything.
4. Fuel filter is in the tank and part of the fuel pump

The truck was pretty cold when it happened. I will start this weekend by removing the O2 sensor. I guess if it comes down to it, if drop the tank ill just change the whole pump etc. I will get truck nice and warm this weekend and check it out. As soon as I posted this I saw a thread down the page that was pretty much similar to what I asked. Didnt mean to make a duplicate type post.

and where do y'all tap into fuel system for pressure guage if there's no Schrader valve in the fuel rail? I'm still learning these things, my old truck was 77 Dodge with built and carbed 440. Thanks again for the help.

You have to install a "T" fitting on the fuel line. Or get the older fuel rail that are metal with the port.
