Default Paint codes

According to my vin the paint code is a PW7, the sticker in my glove box indicates a QW7 and has a "Secondary Paint" description after the code. I have a PW7 touch up paint but it is a creamy color not Bright White as the code indicates. I read another thread with the question about the Clear Coat being the QW7.
Stumped.....

I haven't found my black for years in touch up paints. The current black is like a glitter finish. Might be what happened with your code? After all, our trucks were several Chrysler iterations ago.

Most of the "touch up paints" are for newer vehicles. If you find one in there(at your local parts store) for a 20 year old vehicle you are lucky. Paint codes are not in the vin they are on the body tag and on the sticker under the hood. There can be a secondary paint if your vehicle came with it from the factory.

Look for paint code cross references.
Sometimes a given color will have more than one code and more than one name, especially if used by more than one manufacturer.
For example Chrysler has “Flame Red” and they also call it “Poppy Red”, then GM call it “Bright Red” and “Victory Red”.
Beyond these two manufacturers I also found PR4 with these names;
Aniline Red
Brilliant Red
Blazing Red
Cadmium Red Light
Chinese Red Vermilion
Chlorinated Para Red
Cinnabar Red Light
D&C Red
Fast Red
Fire Red
Flaming Red
French Vermilion Red
Hansa Red
Signal Red

So right there is 14 names for the same RED paint used on my truck.

PS: QW7 is the clearcoat.
PW7 is sales code and GW7 is the paint code for Bright White... also know as Brilliant White and Arctic White, just to name a few.

X2 I'm sure you have heard of the paint called "plumb crazy" right? Well that's a Dodge name, Plymouth used the same paint and called it "in violet".

This Mopar list goes back to 2004 and has PW7 Bright White listed.

PW7 was first used in 1990 and it is still used today. The name changes but same paint code. A slew of vehicles used it along with paint manufactures making it.
