Default Exhaust manifold stud sealant

2000 Dodge Ram 1500 5.9l Magnum 360

Need to replace heads and trying to plan thoroughly through this project to ensure I have all parts, supplies and tools at hand to minimize downtime of the truck as it is my daily driver. I have a few questions regarding mating the exhaust manifolds (original) to the new cylinder heads.
From the service manual:
If the studs came out with the nuts when removing the engine exhaust manifold, install new studs. Apply sealer on the coarse thread ends. Water leaks may develop at the studs if this precaution is not taken.
Obviously the new heads don't come with the studs, so I plan on getting the Dorman Exhaust Manifold Hardware Kit 03211
1. The text from the service manual suggests that the stud holes/threads are open to a coolant channel in the head. What sealer should be used here that the service manual is referring to? Have been unable to find an answer and can someone confirm that in fact these center stud thread holes are through to a coolant channel in the head.
2. The service manual does not talk about a gasket between manifold and head and from the factory it does not come with a gasket. If I don't use a gasket, do I use anything? Like Permatex Ultra Copper?

Mine are bolts, not studs. I used ARP bolts with my stainless headers...
removed a gasket and used Fel-pro units under the headers...

The factory used studs and bolts but you can upgrade to just bolts (It's recommended) don't use Dormant as they will break. Heck even grade 8 hardware from a hardware store is better and can be used. There is a factory gasket and there needs to be a gasket. If you are using headers get ARP bolts and a Remflex gasket. Just buy thread sealer (AutoZone and Advance sells it) to put on the bolts.

I used the ARP bolts and the Remfex manifold gaskets AFTER I put the Pacesetter headers with their gasket, original hardware, and a leak with their gasket. The Remflex says torque to 20 ft. lbs., so far no leaks.
