Hi,"Power to turn em sufficiently" is a personal opinion , but if you do any wheeling or highway driving that includes hills then your definately going to want to re-gear, your not just adding height, but mass also. You won't be able to get out of your own way with 38's and 4.10's. Just some info tho- the 9.25 rear end and the front end [mines Dana 44,not sure what you have] on the 1500 are really not strong enough to handle 38's reliably and without re-gearing your really going to be working your tranny ,which these trannies are not known for their longevity or robustness anyway. You could always put the tires on and see if you can live with it before you re-gear , as doing front and back + speedo cal is not cheap. With the 38's you may want to put some ladder bars on the rear axle to keep wrap-up to a minimum. If you have ABS and go to 38's[any large tire change], without re-gearing,it has been known not function correctly[ABS system, don't know if you have that tho]

Hi there Highclassredneck. You had some very good questions there.I just bought a 2001 extend a cab Sport 4x4 and put on a 3" procomp lift with 33" tires.I was wondering about gear changes and how did you discide what gears.I pull a trailer quite often and find I am a little under powered with my 5.2L.Stay in touch with your upgrades, I would like to do some of them myself, like exhaust a chip and air intake BUT WHAT one.How do you discide.Well enough for now Good luck with your truck.

John

What gears do you have right now Johnnybangnbang? With 33's and pulling a trailer I'd go with 4:10's

you should be alright with the 4.11's the 4.56 would be better but i dont think you should have to do a gear swap. it would be like running 33's with stock gears.

hey johnny bangbang...do u have a 4x4 off raod?..or just it just have 4wd bc if it just has 4wd then u have an even highs gear ratio...i think 3.90?...maybe 3.7s's im not sure...and also the biggest gear set u can fit in the stock dodge rear is 4.56 so really u have only a few choices...as for me my friend has a 5.2 w/ 38's and a i havea 360 and we when we race i pull ahead of him pretty good...as for upgrades i have k&n intake and exaughst..so figure maybe 10hp?
