ANNOUNCEMENT:cracked dashes and the nhtsa. please sign up.
A week ago My satelite radio fell off the windshield and went right through the dash. Yes I had cracks, now I have a hole. Other than a tranny problem and yellowed headlights, I never really had a problem with this dodge. I have a friend who works at a Dodge dealership and when he first rode in mytruck (way before the hole) he said these (2nd gens) always have cracked dashes, and that their used department always puts a cover on them cracked or not.
Unfortunatly it isn't a safty issue. Airbags have holes in them to begin with so they deflate rapidlly and I doubt such a brittle plastic could damage that thick fabric (anyone who has been in a wreck would attest). This is probably on deaf ears and Chrysler just F'd us in the A.

Came in today, very fast shipping. From Coverlay.
Was around $150 incl shipping.
Couldn't find my camera so no before pics and I was gonna post a diy. But it comes with very detailed instructions. It only is noticeable around the right side of the airbag everywhere else it tucks in nice.
Takes eight hours for silicone to set, so I will try to take pics and post back then.
I would say its money well spent, when people would ride in my truck the dash was always noticed and now it looks like new.
Worth it.

My 99 Dodge Ram also has several cracks in the dashboard. This problem appeared in 2005, the same time the clear-coat started to breakdown (not very pretty on a black truck). I have not used Armorall or other protectants. I have only cleaned the dash and protected it with a sun-visor screen in the summer months.
Previous attempts to have any of the several problems that have occurred with this truck have been unsuccessful. I was not aware that these cracks may affect air-bag safety. I will definitely follow up on that. Thanks!
This will be the last Dodge product we plan on purchasing even though I really loved the truck before quality problems were apparent. My husband has a 1995 GMC Z-71. Both trucks have hadsimilar care, except his has four more years mileage. His truck still looks almost new and wemadeno repairs other than tires and regular maintenance at 160,000 miles. His truck now has 230,000 and very few repairs. I previously owned a Chevy Astro with no repairs at 160,000 miles. Our next truck will be a Chevrolet, Nissan or Titan product.

Hey all,
Has anyone found out anything on if there going to a recall or anything for the dashes?? Mine has at least 10-15 cracks all the way across and if you shift it at all it just crumbles in your hands.
