Default P0443 code, rough idle and will not stay running.

Hey guys,
my truck had the p0443 code which is evaporative emissions system purge control valve circuit. I replaced the Evap purge valve and cleared the code. I still haven’t had the code come back on but the truck will start when cold and will idle rough for a couple minutes and then die. I’m thinking it might be the fuel pump. Do you guys have any ideas? Thanks

Unhook the battery for 5-10 minutes to reset the computer. If that doesn't work clean the well in the throttlebody under the IAC valve and clean or replace the IAC. Mopar or Standard Motor Products please, not BWD,duralast, or other cheap valve.

The code says purge control valve *circuit*. It could be the actuator in the valve failed open, but more likely there is a some other electrical problem. If you have a test light or voltmeter, there should be 12V at pin 2 and a dimmer light/less voltage on pin 1 (because of the voltage drop across the coil) with ignition on/engine off.

Topping off the gas tank on these beasts makes for this kinda problem. I discovered that the charcoal canister disintegrates with liquid gasoline present. The "pellets" that were once in the canister now get sucked into the purge system and either plug up the purge solenoid or (more than likely) trap it open permanently. If the soleniod/gate is stuck in the open position, the gas tank develops a vacuum above the gas in the tank. Thus, the engine rough run then die. Try removing the gas cap and see if this solves the dying problem. If it does, the solenoid has charcoal pellets trapping the valve in the open position. Blow out the purge line and dump the canister.
