Default 2000 MODEL CUMMINS DEAD ON ROAD

My 2000 model Cummins 3500 (86,000 miles) died on the freeway in a cloud of white smoke. The lift pump was not working so I replaced it and now its getting fuel to the injector pump but, I can't get it to fire at all - as if the injector pump is not activated. I bled the air out of the fuel lines and changed out the fuel filter after changing the lift pump. It's giving an error code of P1693 on the odometer. Anyone have any ideas as to what to check?

Someone should be able to help you out at one of the above sites. Won't find too many diesel owners here.
