I checked out the computer this morning and it does have the "authorized software update" sticker on it. If the hypertech will correct this power problem, looks like that will be my next investment!

Just curious, what is this authorized computer update and why was it done if it henders the performance so much? Was it an emissions thing? Whatever it was I'm sure the guys at Hypertech love it!!!!

Thanks for the input

sounds like the death flash for sure... a programmer will take care of it. it is done to cover the pinging problems that the trucks have when the plenum leaks.

another thing to consider is the timing chain slop... the stock chain sucks and is probably stretched. get a good double roller for about 60~70 bux.

redneck, the programmer will re write the computers mapping for fuel and spark curves to restore/improve power, most will also read dtc's and adjust the speedo for larger/smaller tires.

My 2001 Quad Cab came with 285's 3.93 gears, a AIRaid intake system, Flowmaster exhaust & a Jet chip. I have to be real careful when the pavement is wet or else it breaks loose like it has a big-block hemi under the hood.

But it sure is fun when one of those new OFF ROAD Z-71's pulls up beside me.

I can roast em and go sideways if its damp on the ground. Freshly sealed tar I can to. On regular pavement never. One day I will be able to squeel off the line
that sucks! i can destroy my tires on dry pavement and i have 3.55 gears. and i mean roast them so much that theres a huge cloud of smoke. I guess you guys should have gotten a stick like me

You guys have me worried I have this flash on the computer now as most of the work by the previous owner was done by the dealer.

I can smoke mine off the line if I hold the brakes and rev it about half way up then let off the brakes and floor it or I can do it getting sideways. Once in a while it will do it from a stop light if I just floor it but not a lot. I do think for this big of an engine is should be faster but maybe not. It will smoke the tires but isn't very fast. In the rain it will really spin them. I also have 33"s though instead of stock tires and a 3" lift. I would like something that can smoke them rolling from 5-10mph but I don't think this truck will ever be able to do that.
