when you drive one listen to see if you can hear rattling from underneath because this could be the cat and that would suck to have to put a new one in right aftet you buy it.

thats all i can think of besides having the tranny checked out and looking down the tb to see if the plenium gasket is leaking. if you can look down the tb with the engine off and see a puddle of oil at the bottom i would see if you can get them to fix it.

beat the hell outa it if you can when you test drive it... make sure the tranny aint slippin on ya... if its a 4X4 .. pop it in 4 on soft ground and listen for clunking clicking .. any odd noises... crawl underneath and check all the seals on the drivetrain... like the yoke seals on the tranny t-case front and rear axle...if you can see dark discoloration on them thats a sighn they are bad and need replaceing... especially on the the U joints on the front axle for steering for the 4wheel... both of mine are bad and waiting till the weather gets better to swap them... cruise at about 60 to 70 and it a nice size bump...if it wobbles and ratlles all over the place..thats the tracbar...another common problem.. listen the the motor.. for knocking rattling..leaks... look around the negine to see if theres any oil spots (dark discoloration) to seee if there is any apearent leaks... goodluck!

Also check the body condition and look at the tires, I had it where I bough my 99 ram and found out a month later that I had negative camber on the front allignment. So look for unusual tire wear, also feel how the trans shifts. Check fluids too, see if the oil is black and ask what they have done for maintenance, like oil, trans, trans fluid/filter. Check for lights to be on that shouldnt be, ect. check engine light. Make sure accessories work, not a biggy, but definately and adder.

Ok This is the deal i have been looking at a 98 1500 with a 3.9 v6 < i know small motor but i need a truck that is good on gas> the Body only has one dig on it the size of a quarter Little bit of scratches on the bed rail 120,000 mile under the truck looks NEW no leaks u joints look and feel good By what i can gather the truck has been maintained very well ... The dealership would not let me sign the paper work till i drove the truck for a few days .. i have had it a day and a half and so far i am pleased with it ... LOL they are giving me 2500 for my 89 ford dualy crew cab <grin> with a blown tranny
