Default My kid blew my 2001 dodge 5.2L 4wd 1500 transmission?

Hello everyone, my kid took my old ride out for a rip and now my transmission doesn't have reverse and likes to starts in second gear. I think he was trying to show his buddies that dad's truck doesn't have traction control, aka can do a burn out.

I think that my rear band is slipping and plan on adjusting, but I know that's a temporary fix. I have a good spare 2wd 46re transmission and want convert it to 4wd transmission. Can I just swap out the overdrive unit from the 4wd (of course with new steels/clutches) for the 2wd transmission? I think it should swap over with no to many issues, but I like to hear everyone. Thanks

You might want to measure the tail housing on the 2WD trans and the OD housing of your 4WD transmission. Not sure if the internal main shafts are the same length between the two transmissions.

Well I took the transmission pan off yesterday and found that the front and rear bands are very loose. I didn't find any broken parts/aluminum and/or clutch material in the pan or on the filter. I'm going to adjust the front/rear band and see if the transmission will work again.

Thanks Atomic for the idea. I'm pretty sure the intermediate shaft (the shaft sticking out from the main transmission housing) should be the same, the only difference should be the output shaft and od housing for 2wd and 4wd. I have the spare 2wd transmission at my dad house right now, I'll grab it next week. I'll hoping that I don't have to take the 2001 transmission out of the truck.

The 2wd is an 2000 and 4wd is a 2001, not sure If I will have to swap my 4wd valve body as well. Last year I had an issue of the truck not going into 4th gear on the coldest of days here, so the governor/temp sensor might be out of wack for temperature measurement.
