Default 2001 Cruise control sudden non op

Cruise control has always worked until a few weeks ago. All was running great on gas V8 until the engine power stumbled and coughed for about a second like fuel starved but then has been running normally again. Except cruise control. When the button is pressed to engage it the letters illuminate saying cruise control. The vacuum line to the module under the battery is functioning properly.
But it won't engage. I never had any problems with the switch on the brake pedal but have not checked it.
Ideas?⁶

Since it lights up that means the servo is good. If it is not setting you have one of the following wrong.
Vac line
Brake pedal switch
Or finally bad switch contact
