Is This Normal For A Rebuilt Upgraded Trans?
Hello All,
I recently had my transmission rebuilt by AAMCO, which didn’t go that well and the trans fluid dumped out. I already posted for advice on that. But after the shop ‘fix’ it, I picked it up and when I got home shifting from reverse to park made a heck of a clunk and sometimes it’s hard enough to rock the truck. I took it back and they said I shouldn’t worry about it and it’s probably just from the boosted pressure or something and it should go away. But it didn’t so I took the truck to another shop and they found all but two of the transfer case bolts were finger loose. So I had them just go through as much as they could and check whatever they can. They said there isn’t anything obvious but when they took the driveline off the clunk from reverse to park still happens, so it’s probably in the transmission. They said it might be from loose bolts inside the tranny or the parking pawl or it could just be a characteristic of this upgraded transmission. They couldn’t tell me for sure without taking it apart, which makes sense. But today I noticed a shudder for a few seconds going uphill at about 45-50 mph and felt bogged down. Before the rebuild the truck would take off like a rocket at 45 and shoot it to 65 real quick. That was one of my favorite things about the truck. Not it is pretty sluggish accelerating over 45. The upgraded parts include a triple disc billit TC. I’m still trying to figure out how to attach the video I took but I just wanted to see if you guys think this is a problem or if these types of transmissions just act this way?
Is the clunk normal? Can I get the acceleration over 45 mph back up?
I’m happy to provide more detail if it helps.
Thanks advance, I’m stoked to be learning more about my rig and building her up!

The transmission rebuild job by AAMCO should still be under warranty, I would contact AAMCO and have AAMCO address the issues you're having, as I'm sure you paid good money to have the transmission rebuilt by AAMCO.
