46RE - possible electrical issue - I give up
So, new member, been lurking for a few days searching for answers. Not sure if I just haven't found them or haven't paid close enough attention to what I'm reading.
Here's what I've got. 2001 1500 with a 5.2, 2wd. Replaced transmission and torque converter back in August, drove home just fine, no real issues. A couple of days later, trans wouldn't shift to 2nd or above, kept getting "Trans Temp" light. Parked the truck, bought another vehicle, went on about life. I've got to get off the truck, so I decided it was time to try to fix it. Pulled the pan, dropped the valve body, changed out shift solenoid and governor solenoid, and adjusted the front band, installed fresh filter. Ran another can of Kooler Klean through it just as a precaution. Went to reassemble, realized there accumulator piston internal spring (the smaller one) was nowhere to be found. Ordered one, installed it, put the transmission back together. Filled it with fluid, did a couple of slow laps around the block, everything seemed fine. Did some stuff around town, got maybe 15 miles since work was done, lost first at a stop sign. Rolled back into a parking spot, killed the truck, went over everything I'd done in my head, started the truck, shifted right into gear, but had a distinct whine. This has persisted ever since. I can start the truck, let it warm a little, shifts right into first in Drive, whine goes away as speed increases, shifts to 2nd, 3rd with no problem, but as soon as I come to a stop, engine revs but transmission doesn't catch. Kill the truck, restart it, goes straight into 1st with no issue. Changed the relay and fuse, made sure connection on 8-pin was good, readjusted front band, everything stayed the same. I'm trying to sell the truck but don't want to pawn off this problem on someone else. Does anyone have a rabbit hole I can fall down to maybe find a rabbit?

When you say whine it leads me to believe it’s the pump…..which would explain why it works then doesn’t….also try putting in neutral for 20 seconds before take off….fluid doesn’t flow in park so every time you just take off you starve tranny of fluid for about 15 seconds, doing this EVERY day wears transmission….I never take right off always put in neutral for 20 seconds before take off..
What was the issue with the old trans? Could be the check valve is blocked up. Also what year was the trans you put in? Might want to do a pressure test on it.
