Default Rear pinion seal

Okay so I was attempting to remove my rear pinion seal in my 01 cummins but I couldn’t get the yolk off. Probably because I forgot to put it in neutral before I started. But now I’m trying to get the drive shaft back on but I can’t move anything and it’s not lining back up. Not sure why because I didn’t remove or twist anything. All I did was take the drive shaft off secure it and take the nut off that holds the yolk on. Then tried to put it back but it wouldn’t like up. I have no idea what to do

If your trans or t-case is in N the rear output should rotate.

If the parking brake isn't set the pinion should rotate.

The 60 rear is a crush sleeve axle IIRC. If you have a 60 and overtorqued the pinion nut you may be fighting a ton of bearing preload. Apparently the 70 rear is not a crush sleeve axle so you get it gutentight
