Default Key in switch

Is the Key in Switch on the the ignition switch of the a vehicle important to the operation or is it just for the beeper that goes off when you leave the key in?

The latter. Many newer vehicles use it to override the pdl's to make accidental lockout less likely also

IIRC, I think it does more than activate the chime. Last yr. while I was looking at schematics, it was somewhat part of....already forgot. Dang. But really tho.
