Default Transfer case battle

So I just traded my daily driver reliable car for a somewhat messed up hood running 98 1500 long bed. Drove two hours back no issues then the trans or transfer case started tripping out and jumping in and out of gear so I went to the junk yard and found a Chevy 241c transfer case and pulled out the whooped looking 231d that was in it. Got everything set up, went to put it in, and the female spline (27 I think) did not match up with the male transmission spline (23 tooth). I’m at a stand still and will probobly lose my job if I call out again tomorrow, am I screwed or can I swap the one from the 231 to the 241?

Can't swap that Chevy into the Dodge setup, due to issues like the one you ran into. You will need to find another Dodge 231 transfer case or rebuild the one that you have. And, to add insult to injury, not all Dodge Ram 1500 231 transfer cases are the same for the 2nd gen ('94-'01) run, so you must find the right one that will work for that year truck, if you decide to swap it.

You probably can swap the planetary input but it's a lot of work.

If it's popping out of 2hi it's likely just the range fork. I'd be a bit surprised if the fork were the same from C to D but if you're really lucky it's just the shift fork pads and they may be the same. Truthfully though if it's bad enough to pop out, the fork itself is almost surely munched.

Even if you swapped the right spline count into the C I don't think the bolt pattern at the t-case adapter is the same?
