Will a transmission out of a 1999 dodge Dakota with the 5.2 work in a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 with the 5.9 and if so is there anything special you have to do to interchange the two

As long as the transmission from the Dakota is a 46RE, you should be fine. Just be sure to use the flexplate on the back of your 5.9 engine and not the flexplate from the 5.2 engine. As for the torque converter from the Dakota, I'm unsure if that will work, but I'm sure others will chime in about it.

I believe the Durangos and Dakotas with the 5.2 used a 44RE which will technically work in a Ram but won't last long.
