Default ABS/Brake light and Speedo

1998 1500 4x4 5.9
Bought this truck about 3 years ago, once in a while, the ABS and Brake light would come on while driving, but go off after a restart. Over the last 8 months or so, it started happening more frequently, and now it happens every time I drive it. I bought a new rear speed sensor for the rear diff from NAPA, and the lights went away for a day. Disconnected the battery overnight didn't help. I was thinking about replacing the ABS module, but then just yesterday my speedo was not working until I hit about 30-40 MPH, then it would jump up to speed and start working. I swapped my old sensor back in but still issues with lights and speedo. I did the cluster check (by pressing the trip button, with the key on and then off then back on) and it had no issues.

Not sure if it could be the speed sensor on the transmission? I am considering ordering a MOPAR speed sensor for the rear diff, just to eliminate the possibility of crappy parts (as the one from NAPA was branded Dorman in the instruction booklet it came with) as well as ordering a new transmission speed sensor. Thoughts?

NOTE: I upgraded my brakes to LD 2500 calipers in the front and upgraded wheel cylinder in the back about a year and a half ago, then bled properly. I had the lights come on before and after this.upgrade,

If the abs and brake lights come on it means there is a fault in the abs somewhere. See if you can take it somewhere so they can read the abs fault codes. Otherwise you will be just changing parts.

As I understand it the sensor on the transmission is only used for the operation of the transmission. The speedometer information comes from the ABS, primarily the rear axle sensor (with 4 wheel ABS the front sensors are used as well). Possible causes for the issue: Replacement sensor no good, wiring to the sensor (incl connector at ABS module), sensor not sitting correctly due to rust jacking, faulty ABS module. A proper scan tool would definitely help.

Thanks for the replies,

I am usually guilty of loading the parts cannon when trying to fix my vehicles.

May take to a local guy to have scanned, he has a nice snap-on scanner.

I am wanting to buy myself a decent scan tool and have been looking at the Autel, I think the MaxiSys. Anyone have one? Wanting to see if it does ABS for our trucks. I know it does fuel sync.
