'99 Ram 1500, fuse #1 keeps blowing, no power to #5
Hey all! Long time lurker here, finally posting for help because I can't seem to find a straight answer/solution anywhere.
Please go easy on me, I have no idea what I'm doing and usually no clue what I'm looking at.
'99 Ram 1500 5.2l, Laramie RWD
A few weeks ago, all the interior lights (dome, acc, cluster) went out, along with headlights, running lights, park lights, blinkers, and so on - basically all the electrical just went out.
After much troubleshooting (thanks to these forums), we got the headlights, dome lights, windows and locks, and brake/reverse lights to work. It had been a bad battery fuse under the hood. Then, we got everything else on after changing ALL the fuses.
And then gone again. This time, just the running lights (front and back), park lights, and cluster lights.
It's worth noting that my husband has an aftermarket stereo installed, and it's wired directly to the battery. We've since unplugged it from everything to see if that was the issue, to no avail.
We replaced fuse #1 (15amp) and it blew as soon as we turned the switch. We also replaced the switch when the issues first arose. We have no power to fuse #5 whatsoever. Nada. At least, not found with a multimeter or test light.
We've gotten all the lights to come on periodically after replacing fuse #1 before it inevitably blows again. All the lights EXCEPT the cluster. All the gauges work fine. We've taken it out and replaced all the bulbs and checked the wiring for chafing, exposure, burning, etc.
Fuse #1 blows as soon as we turn the switch to the running lights. We checked the connectors and wiring when we replaced the switch and saw nothing of note.
We have also completely disconnected the trailer connector and wrapped the wiring, as well as removed the corresponding fuses/relays.
Blinkers work, headlights work, high beams work, brake and reverse lights work, as does the cabin (the one on top in the back?).
The only things affected are the running lights, license plate lights, and cluster lights. No broken/bad bulbs as far as I can tell.
I don't know how to chase the wiring and I'm stuck doing this solo as my husband works away quite a lot. And, well... You've seen the gas prices too, right? No money to spare for a shop. That said, I can't seem to find wiring diagrams for what I need anywhere.
So, any advice or tips you can give me, I'd appreciate. Thank y'all in advance!

You can download the service manual for your year truck here - https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...e-manuals.html
In the service manual, there is a section that has the wiring diagrams.

Are you getting an about:blank when trying to go to that page, or after clicking one of the links on that page to download the manual?
I just tried the download on that page for the 1998-1999 and it worked fine either right- or left-clicking.
- Do you have an ad blocker and/or pop-up blocker on your browser?
- Did you try right-clicking the link for the 1998-1999 and choosing (whatever your browser's equivalent is of) "Save link as..."?

I was up until 4am trying to make sense of what I was looking at, so I'm probably going to have a lot more questions once I get in there again, haha. 😅
