Default airbag light, chime, dog riding shotgun

Hey all,
Bought a nice '99 Dodge Ram for a ranch truck and the airbag light was not on when I bought it nor any codes. I had a mechanic replace the radiator and water pump immediately after purchasing and just picked it up from the mechanic and noticed on the way home the airbag light was on. Next time I drove it it there was intermittent chiming seemingly random.
I've searched online for answers and will try the disconnect battery etc but no one is mentioning if you just might have a dog riding with you HAHAHA! He's about 60 lbs and the only other thing different driving since I first test drove and took it into the shop. Could his weight be triggering the system since I haven't buckled up his seat belt. Can't believe no forum or Dodge service blog has mentioned this lol. I'm going to buckle up his belt and see if I can make the darn thing stop. Seems logical to me. Anyone found this out for themselves?

I honestly don't know if there's a weight sensor on the passenger seat? These airbag modules are failure prone and it could just be coincidence. There's a write-up here on DF, like an entire linkable tech page, not just a thread.

If it is the seat belt, with other vehicles I've had GREAT success with seat belt "extenders". You can buy short ones that are nothing more than a female buckle attached to a male buckle. I run one daily in my '07 F150. Check ebay if interested

Hey thanks Keith_L!
I know my P71 cop car def has a passenger seat weight sensor and it took me a while to figure that out riding with my dog lol-no chiming tho.. I'll try out the seat belt trick unhook the battery trick first, then start hunting. Worth a shot. Could be as simple as buckling up the passenger side.
When I first opened the hood on this Ram I thought hunh where's the rest of the motor lol. Hopefully they can't be sooo difficult to work on. Sure enjoying it so far and I'll be haunting the tech forum.

I had it bookmarked:

The engines are compact but some of that is because of how they nested the alternator and a/c compressor on top. You'll get good at pulling those and their associated bracket for several different maintenance tasks. You'll also come to hate the giant hose clamp that holds the air filter box on -- it's simple in theory but loves to **** and seat improperly.

yup the airbox and hose clamp is a charmer! Mine came complete with a busted off clip in the back and I know why haha. Thanks for that link I'd seen it but didn't remember where online. Still haven't unhooked battery but the seatbelt trick didn't work as it chimed again light on during one trip. Of course now the airbag lights been off last time I drove it HAHAHA! Whole new learning curve on this truck, I don't want to get fooled into thinking I'm driving a tractor compared to my cop crown vics but if I can work on those surely I can figure the Ram out. I have a feeling it's pretty stoopid simple in terms of maintaining but am reading up on the top problems. What year's your's and what all have you done to it.

If you can work on Ford's modular mills -- even if only 2V -- you can definitely work on these trucks. Spark plugs are a breeze (and I personally don't use a torque wrench but I'd never dare do that on a 2V!!) Timing chain is an afternoon affair rather than a full weekend like the modular timing sets.
