Dash Illumination No Longer Working After Radio Short-circuit
Last night I was fixing some wiring with my radio as the last person didn't do it right. Well, I forgot to close off a wire and something short circuited to the metal casing. (At least thats what I belive happened). I had it in accesory testing it, and quickly turned it off when I heard the pop sound. When I went to turn the truck on the headlights would come on, all the warnings and gauges work, however, the dash illumination no longer works. I went over the interior fusebox. I pulled the gauge cluster, and the lightbulbs don't look burnt, nor does the gauge cluster look burnt or fried. Is there anyway to properly test the dimmer? Lastly the radio does work but the LCD and blue lighting around it is dead, I'm assumimg its toast.Am I right in thinking the headlamp dimmer switch kicked the bucket, or could it be something with the fuses or gauge cluster I wasnt able to see? FYI, its a 1998 1500 with a 3.9L V6. (Single cab)
Update: after going over diagrams and thinking, I think I now know what caused this... I believe the ground wire of the radio may have made contact with the orange wire. Both of which, I and the person who came before me, hadn't covered. Additionally it may be that the orange wire made contact with the metal casing.. (or the black and yellow wire) I'm going to check fuse 5. Wish me luck because clearly Im a Dumbass.
