46RE Shifting High in Low Gear
Good evening, I have recently rebuilt my transmission after having the forward drum burn up. I put a ne torque convertor in and flushed the cooling system. I am now looking at a P1740, TCC solenoid lockup performance, and I am experiencing a weird shift pattern in what would seem like 1-2 and 2-3. It occurs between 20mph and 30mph, the truck won't shift if I am doing more than babying the gas to accelerate, and it will shift around 2200. If I am driving like one would normally in stop and go traffic on the highway from a dead stop to 70, I experience a high shift point at about 2500-2800, depending on throttle. The 3rd gear shift occurs no matter the throttle. After shifting into 2nd gear (or what seems like 2nd gear), the transmission will accelerate from 30-40mph, sometimes it will shift if I let off the throttle around 35mph and 2600rpms if I'm not going uphill or underload. If my acceleration is anything more than normal, it won't shift even at 3500rpms until I let off the gas a little. Both shift points are a rough jerk and the truck kind of shutters, but the other shifts all seem find shifting around 2100rpms with no jerks or shudders felt and cruising at around 1800-2000rpms at 70mph based on hills/load/downhill etc. The truck is a 2001 2500 with a 360, it has 3.55 gears and is on 33s. Thank you in advance
Did you adjust the TV cable to see if that made any difference with the shifts?
Also, to get that truck back into into optimal performance with those 33" tall tires, installing 4.10 gearing instead of the 3.55 would really help it out, especially from idle leaving from a stoplight and throughout the lower RPM ranges..

I have tried adjusting the TV Cable, it seems to be loose on both the throttle end and the transmission end, I have a considerable amount of play and even moving the cable as tight as I can. it doesn't seem to do much. Could the TVC be stretched and need replacement? And yes, I have wanted to do 4.10s but I don't have the money right now to change my gears
I had a shifting issue with my rebuilt 46RE transmission. I ended up replacing my TV cable with a new one due to accumulated rust inside of it and stretching over the years. Replacing it and adjusting it properly made a world of difference in getting the transmission to shift properly.
As for gears, is your truck 2WD or 4WD and which differential is in the truck (Dana 60, Dana 70, Dana 80 or something else)?

I'll try getting one then. It is a 4x4 with a Dana 60 in both the front and rear. Unfortunately, my truck was previously a government truck so it was cheaped out on and only got the Dana 60 rear
My truck originally came with 3.55 gears with Dana 60 front and rear. I really like my 33" tires, but with 3.55, the truck felt really sluggish when taking off from a stoplight. Luckily, Dana 60 ring and pinions are pretty tough gears, so I decided to find a couple of used sets of gears off eBay for under $100 each. Also, found bearing/install kits on eBay for about $100 each. I have a friend who does driveline work for a living and he installed the gears for me at a reasonable price, along with a Power-lock carrier in the rear for posi-traction. That work really woke the truck up and my fuel mileage actually improved a bit.
when I got the truck it had the 33s, so it has always felt a bit sluggish. And I have read that the 4.10s with larger wheels do better for MPGs, I get 11-12 as it is so I'm not doing terrible. But when the transmission had no shifting issues, I was still looking at like 15 seconds for a 0-60. I'll look into getting some gears if I can find any, but I figured that if I was gonna do a new diff setup, I should do the limited slip or trac-loc setup so I don't have to take it all out again

So I feel stupid. I can't rule everything out yet, but I got frustrated because I have watched so many videos about adjusting the throttle valve cable but it just felt loose. Well, it would appear I have been doing it wrong the whole time. I was grabbing around at random parts of the cable by the throttle body and felt a part move and when I looked it was the plastic sleeve around the cable. Well I figured what the heck let me move this and see if that does anything, and it would seem that fixed it. Took it for a drive and the first time I saw around 200rpm in drop between starting and getting up to 55mph. There was a small hiccup around 20 mph where the truck revved a little higher, so I adjusted it back just a hair and it seems to be shifting like a champ. I'm still getting the solenoids warrantied because they are only 3 months old and I just want to check all my bases. So I'll give you an update on Wednesday when they get in and I get them replaced.
