Default 00 ram 1500 bad transmission

Hows it going!
I've got a 00 ram 1500 with the 5.9 paired with 46re transmission. Lately it threw a p1740 code for overdrive/tcc. I decided to drop the pan and swap the sensor in the off chance it was my issue. I had metal shavings and transmission fluid smelt burnt. Leads me to believe I'm on borrowed time. I'm looking for a used transmission from a junkyard or to buy used. Looking for some insight as to what years would be a direct swap? Could I put a 96 in the 00? Also what's the difference between 4wd to 2wd? I found a 96 2wd with low miles. Thanks for the help, I appreciate it.

There are two solenoids, one for lock up and one for OD. What did you replace? The code is for P1740 TCC O/D Solenoid Performance so it may not be the solenoids. If your trans has dark fluid and shavings it may be clogged up. If you want to swap it out you want a 2000 and up. 4X4 bolts up to the transfer case and the 4X2 has a tail housing.

Interesting. I was under the impression that the tcc/ overdrive was the same unit. At any rate I believe the transmission is smoked, I'll keep an eye out for a used one.
