K&N or Similar
Lookin to upgrade the air intake on my truck, would it be good enough to just run a K&N drop in cause i really dont want to spend 300 bucks, or is there some other kind of filter cheaper, im looking at letting my engine breathe better
You could always do what I and alot of others have done and make your own intake. I ordered one of those cheap ones from ebay and used the air hat and the filter. The rest I tossed. I installed the air hat then routed some pvc pipe from the air hat down to the passenger side radiator support. I cut a hole in the flap next to the radiator and installed the filter. Now the intake gets cool air from outside the engine bay rather than the hot air under the hood. All together for the ebay kit and the two pvc elbows I bought (already had the pipe laying around), everything came to about $50 Here is a pic of what I made so you get an idea of what I am talking about.

Also, before you go and spend all that money for a K&N, you might want to read this. The article convinced me to save the money and use it for something else. http://www.duramax-diesel.com/spicer/index.htm

This is exactly why Honda (motorcycles) has been declining to honor their warranty on motor problems if they find out you are running a K&N filter.
We all know they flow like crazy and that is why we get the increase in power. But that is because, as Honda says, they let way too much stuff through and into the engine causing premature failure.
All you guys that have em and swear by em please don't hate me for passing this information on, just telling you what I know.
