Default Door Lock Cylinder Help

Hey guys, what's my best course of action to fix my driver's side door lock cylinder? The little dust guard type plate thingy that covers the key hole when there's no key in it seems to have broken or to be dislodged. The key and lock both still work, but it's a little bit looser, and am concerned that ignoring it will make the problem worse. The complicated part is that I want to keep the same key for the truck.
What's my best bet? I saw a guy on YT change out the tumblers on a new cylinder to match his old key, but it looked a bit tricky... is this a common problem? Any easy fixes?
Thanks in advance!

Sounds like the lock cylinder needs to be replaced and the slide portion lubricated at a minimum.

I'd remove the lock and take it to a locksmith to fix it up and keep the same key.

Shouldn't be too hard. Good locksmiths are used to working on old locks..
